Bug wars and beyond

One of the challenges of a greenhouse is the aphids; they love the warm, humid environment.  But, they are in big trouble now that the ladies in red have arrived.

I have some new blooms this year.............

I've never seen the flower of the Jade Plant.  They're quite delicate and airy.  I've had the Bird of Paradise for several years; it finally decided to bloom.  I just learned that the Bird of Paradise is a member of the banana family

The Gerbera Daisies and Geraniums are just as anxious for spring as I am....

The Zantedeshchia, commonly called Calla Lily, is not really a lily at all.  It is in the Arum family and originates from South Africa......

A little linseed oil brings out the color of the cedar boxes, soon to be mini herb gardens....

Much of the happiness we work to achieve is actually found in the work itself.  The anticipation of things to come is a pleasure of its own, if we have the wisdom to recognize it.

A look back helps us to look forward with anticipation!

In the spring of 2011 I made a decision.  It was difficult, but I decided the pond had to go......

I knew the kids would miss the fish (I would too) and I felt bad about that........

But, I had another plan; a stream instead.  I think the kids have had more fun with the stream than they did with the pond.....

Spring of 2011 came late, but with a lot of color and other surprises......

Another spring is just around the corner.  We have a lot to look forward too!!

The Greenhouse--January 2012

It's early, but the greenhouse is taking shape.  It helps me get past the "nothing" weeks of January and February when the holiday 'family and fun' is over.  I started some cuttings of Plectranthus-Mona Lavender this morning.  In a few more weeks I'll start cuttings of the Swedish Ivy and Plectranthus Gold as well as the geraniums.  By the time April comes the greenhouse will be so full there will be only a path around the table.
