Signs of Fall 2013

When the fall crocus blooms, it's time to say goodbye to summer

The fruits of the season make this a wonderful time of year

Cleome starts blooming (over a month ago) when it is about two feet tall. The blossom head goes higher and higher, leaving behind a stem with dangling seed pods. They stand about four feet tall now.

The summer poinsettia (Amaranthus) is even more brilliant in the fall's morning sun

I love to watch the Bird of Paradise slowly emerge.  The Tuberose is a flower that should be experienced; its fragrance is amazing.

I have always loved Begonias and Mona Lavender (Plectranthus) has become another favorite.
Fall is the time of plenty and the season of reward. It is as full as the hopes, desires and efforts that preceded it. The Lord has blessed us.

2013 Deck and other things

Spring, 2013, was extra cool. That and our deck project delayed planting a little longer than normal, but things are beginning to produce now. I always love to see the spring flowers.

Late May brings out he Iris. They were especially nice this year:

By July the peas are gone and the rest of the garden begins to produce. We're just a couple days away from fresh corn.

The flower beds are filling out nicely. I especially like the purple basil.

We are really enjoying the new deck. It gives us a good view of the yard.

Season within a Season

Our Phoenix kids arrived here yesterday; just in time for some fun...

While the kids play outside, I like to play inside, my own season within a season...

The Angel Trumpet is quite fragrent.  In combination with the Heliotrope they make the greenhouse smell nice.  The Pomegranate has a small, interesting flower.

The Impatiens have not stopped blooming since I brought them in and the Gerbera Daisies are getting their second wind.

Fall is in the air

Summer is giving way to Fall, it's a great time of year.  As you may have guessed, I love gladiolus...

The Tuberose is one of the most fragrant flowers I've ever come across.  It is a fall bloomer that is worth waiting for.  At times its scent fills the entire yard...

Sunflowers are rather ordinary, but they do have a certain charm...

Hibiscus and Sedum add great color for the Fall...

Impatiens and Coleus are especially vibrant in early Fall...

When the nights are cooler and longer the Rasperries are at their best.  The Fall Gold are especially sweet and juicy...

Crocus flowers are among the very first to announce the Spring.  Colchicum or Fall Crocus pop to announce the Autumn season...

I'm not the only one that loves Gladiolus.  Hummingbirds can't resist them.  I've had them feeding on the bouquets I was still holding.  They are fun to watch...
